House Republicans push change to rule that enabled Kevin McCarthy coup
In a new update on the McCarthy case, we got info that the House Republicans are pushing for a change to rule that enabled former speaker Kevin McCarthy coup.
In history, Kevin McCarthy will be first sitting speaker of the House to be ousted via a motion to vacate and it with the key rule if implemented should avoid this situation in the future.
As per the current rule used by Representative Matt Gaetx this week, he used the House permit a single member to force a floor vote on a motion for McCarthy to vacate the chair while McCarthy has agreed to lower the threshold for a floor vote.
As per Representative Carlos Gimenez;
“I’m not supporting ANYONE for Speaker until there is a commitment to reform the Motion to Vacate,”
“The coup against Speaker McCarthy was DESPICABLE & must never happen again. No one can govern effectively while being threatened by fringe hostage takers.”
Also according to an Allie of McCarthy, Rep. Garret Graves (R-La.) In a letter disbursed to colleagues on Wednesday reads;
“The injustice we all witnessed yesterday cannot go unaddressed—lest we bear responsibility for the consequences that follow,” he wrote. “Our Conference must address fundamental changes to the structure of our majority to ensure success for the American people.”
While McCarthy In farewell speech on Tuesday stated;
“I don’t think that rule is good for the institution but apparently I’m the only one,”
